Hunters Hill Residence
Natural light was a key consideration in the design of this home, with large north-facing windows bringing generous daylight into the living spaces and bedrooms. Designed by Gavin Gillett, the smaller south-facing windows soften the transition between the interior and the bright outdoor light, while also maximising airflow through cross-ventilation.
For night-time, we designed a lighting scheme that creates warm, relaxed spaces using soft indirect light to reveal the architecture and gently illuminate people’s faces, supplemented by concealed task lighting.
With all of these layers fully dimmable through the Lutron control system installed by Rob Mahon from Lightix, the lighting can provide the functionality needed while also being dimmed down to the lowest comfortable level in the evening, helping to minimise disruption to the circadian rhythm.
From the main entrance, an illuminated handrail guides down to the living spaces on the floor below. No downlights were used in the kitchen and lounge room with super low glare downlights fully concealed and integrated in the dining room’s acoustic ceiling.
